Gulbis struggles, but through. Tomic upset by Sock in Stockholm

Two different fates for a couple of very interesting players in Stockholm.

Gulbis

Mad Max Gulbis survives a 3 setter against world no. 36 Jeremy Chardy. The Frenchman stretched the Latvian as much as he could to lose after 2 hours and 20 minutes. Interesting enough both players broke the opponent twice, but Chardy couldn’t defend any break point to lose 2 out of 2 while Gulbis saved 10 break points out of 12! Ernest finally fired 15 aces to commit a whopping 7 double faults.

In the next round Gulbis will play for the first time world no. 67 Igor Sijsling.

Tomic

Another tournament another disappointment for Bernard! After winning his maiden tournament in Sydney this year Bernard looked almost unimpressed to say that that would have been just the first of many. Well… that didn’t really happen as the young Australian has now a horrible 28-21 win loss record in 2013 and he didn’t manage do go beyond the 2nd round since Wimbledon to frequently crash in the opener.

It took only 58 minutes for world no. 97 Jack Sock to dismiss a very erratic Tomic in straight painful sets. Sock will play seed no.1 David Ferrer in the second round for the first time.
