Angelique Kerber triumphs in Linz!

What a great and weird week for Angelique Kerber!

The top seed started this event in the worst possible way by losing the first set of the tournament 6-0 (!!!). Then she was all over the show! From that moment on Angelique didn’t drop a single set to win the final against a good Ana Ivanovic.

The Final
The German started the final rather well to double break Ana and lead with a (heavy) 4-1 score line. Then the Serb fought back to double break again Angelique that broke again Ana to lead 5-4. At that point Kerber didn’t lose the opportunity to grab the first set on her serve.

In the second set Ivanovic had a head start to lead 2-0, but then after a series of exchange of breaks the duo went to the tiebreak. Ana got a 4-2 lead to then lose the following 4 points. Angelique didn’t manage to convert any of the two match points when she was leading 6-4 and the score went to a very tense 6 all. Kerber won the last two points to grab her 3rd career title.

Kerber: This victory means a lot to me

Angelique did qualify for the final showdown in Istanbul after this victory to comment “This is an incredible feeling. This victory means a lot to me. I will go to the ‘Masters’ with lots of confidence now.”
