Cori Gauff has arrived in England to play the WTA event in Eastbourne. The American sensational had an incredible run in the last tournament in Wimbledon (2019) when she reached the fourth round starting from the qualification and after beating her childhood hero Venus Williams on the way. She was just 15.
This year, Coco Gauff had an excellent clay-court season after reaching the quarter-finals at the French Open, the semi-finals in Rome and she won the title in Parma.
Wimbledon expectations
Talking about the expectations that Coco has to face when playing Wimbledon after her amazing 2019 run, she commented:
“It does feel so long ago. I won’t say it feels like yesterday. It feels like it was a long time ago – and it was almost two years ago. It’s just crazy. I don’t know how I’m going to feel going back for the first time. I know I’ll be happy.”
Coco also commented about the pressure she might have. She said:
“People might expect me to feel pressure going into it, but I don’t really feel any pressure going into it. I’m just going to have fun and enjoy it. I don’t really want to push myself to compare my result this year with last time.
I want to do better than when I first went there, but it was the start of everything. I’m thankful for that experience and it definitely helped me as a player and a person. I guess I haven’t actually had any flashbacks regarding Wimbledon yet, so maybe that will happen when I get on the grounds.”

Coco Gauff will play her first match in Eastbourne engaged Elie Mertens. They have never played against each other so far.

Now the world no.23 (career-high), Cori played her last match on the 9th of June when she surrendered to world no.15 Barbora Krejcikova 7-6(6) 6-3 in the quarter of the French Open (draw).
Currently, during this year Gauff has a composed 27-10 match record. Gauff conquered 1 title in Parma.
