Ivanovic and Kerber advance in Linz

Two of the top three seeds advance in Linz.

Ana Ivanovic

The seed no.3 had a good win against the former Roland Garros champion Francesca Schiavone. The match was a 1 hour 32 minutes battle. Schiavone had a good start to break Ana in the opening game. Then the Serbian broke immediately back the Italian to break her again in the 6th game and win the 1st set 6-3.  In the second set both players traded breaks after breaks with Ana missing the opportunity to close the match when she was serving in the 10th game (she was leading 5-4) Eventually the Serbian beauty won the second set 7-5.

One of the biggest problems for the Italian was her second serve to commit 9 double faults and win only 39% of the points on the second serve. Match Stats.

Angelique Kerber

Angelique survived a scare from world no. 45 Monica Niculescu. The Romanian bagelled Angelique in the first set (!!!) , but then she was trashed in the second and third set. The match ended after 1 hour and 44 minutes. Match Stats

Angelique will play another Romanian in the next match as she will take on world no. 72 Alexandra Cadantu. This is the first match between these two.
