Good start of the tournament for King Roger that gets to the third round in straight sets vs. Andreas Seppi.
Roger struggled just a bit in the opening set when he was broken in the 5th game. Another major upset? Not really… the Maestro regrouped to immediately break back the Italian and then breaking him again in the 10th game to win the opener 6-4.
In the second set Roger broke immediately Seppi to then hold serve and win 6-.3. The good stuff for the Maestro was that he finally managed to have a decent conversion on break points (4 out of 5).
Roger: Seppi did a good job of hanging around
Federer had some comments about his early break “Just a tough combination when I got broken. I was able to break back right away still with the used balls. Then with the ball change, I was in the match really.
“It was a big maybe shall I say 20 minutes going up a set and a break, really started to feel comfortable. Even though it remained tough, Seppi did a good job of hanging around. That’s the kind of first round match you want in this particular situation I’m in right now.”
Next vs. Monfils
Roger will play Gael Monfils in the third round. The entertaining Frenchman defeated a very good Vasek Pospisil 7-5 7-6 (4) . Head to head is 6-1 for Roger
