Another day another trash. It seems that it doesn’t matter if Serena is playing the world no.4 (Radwanska in the semifinal) or the world no.11 (Jankovic), the world no.1 reserve the same treatment: 6-2 6-2.
The final
Serena started in “Serena’s way”… a nice early break and 3-0!…. but to tell the truth that wasn’t as easy as usual as Serena had to really battle in the first 2 games. The first set ended with another break in the 8th game and that was it: 6-2.
The interesting part of the match was actually the second set as Serena was really struggling with something (her lower back?) to be broken in the third game. The American looked even close to tears and we were expecting a fierce comeback from Jankovic. Right? Wrong!!! Jelena surprised everybody to ask a medical timeout (wasn’t Serena to struggle?) and when she came back she couldn’t really play and in a blink of an eye it was Serena to win 5 consecutive games to grab the match 6-2 6-2 in 88 minutes.
Serena: I didn’t think I’d win this tournament
The American was “surprisingly surprised” to get this title to comment “I’m really excited – I didn’t think I’d win this tournament
Congratulations to Jelena for such a great tournament as well. I really love tennis so much and it’s fans like the ones here in China who are so exciting to come to. The fans make me want to play, and they’re so great here, so coming here is such a great opportunity.”
Jelena: Serena was just too good
Jankovic couldn’t beat this time the world no.1 (she did it 4 times!) to comment. “Serena was just too good and big congratulations to her.”
This is Serena’s 56th title and the 10th of the season… amazing stuff!!!
