THE STATEMENT. Federer withdraws from the Roland Garros before facing Berrettini

Federer explains why he decided to withdraw from the French Open

Roger Federer

Roger Federer made it very clear that he had no expectation for this Roland Garros. Also, the Swiss Maestro has never been shy in saying that this French Open was only part of his preparation for him. Soon after winning his third round against Dominik Koepfer (in 3h:35m),  Roger disclosed that he was not sure he would play the next round against Matteo Berrettini.

This was Federer’s statement:

“After discussions with my team, I’ve decided I will need to pull out of the French Open today. After two knee surgeries and over a year of rehabilitation, it’s important that I listen to my body and make sure I don’t push myself too quickly on my road to recovery. I am thrilled to have gotten 3 matches under my belt. There is no greater feeling than being back on court. See everyone soon!”

Eventually, Roger retired and he gave the green light to the Italian quarter-final. in the final eight, Berrettini will face either Novak Djokovic or fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti.
