What a quirky final in Tokyo!
Petra Kvitova found herself quite on roller coast during this 1 hour and 39 minutes. The Czech rushed in the first set to get an early break in the second game and gain a comfortable 4-1 lead. Another break in the 8th game gave the opportunity to Kvitova to win the opener 6-2.
An easy final? Not really! In the second set Petra imploded to be bagelled lose it 6-0) and Angelique Kerber seemed to be the hot favourite for the title. Right? Wrong!
It was time for the German to implode to lose 4 consecutive games and try to rally from a 0-4 deficit. Then Petra squandered 3 championship point to win the 4th time asking!

This was Kvitova’s 11 career title, the second of the season after winning in New Haven. This title will give a decisive boost for Petra to break into the top8 and have a strong chance to qualify to Istanbul.
