What a great day for Venus!
The American reaches the 3rd round in Tokyo defeating the world no.3 Vika Azarenka.
The Belarus wasn’t at her best, well… she was really struggling with her physical condition, and Venus got full advantage of the situation.
Williams won the first set without many problems, and she also managed to win an early break in second set to lead 2-0. Then Vika managed to break back in the 7th game to even the score, but the there was no fuel left in the tank an Venus won the second set with a comfortable 6-4.
Venus: I Hope Vika will feel better.
After the match Venus said that she felt almost bad to play given the Azarenka’s conditions, but to be honest Venus is really in great form and she has already impressed in the opener against Mona Barthel when she won 6-3 6-1.
“I hope Victoria feels better by Beijing. Lord knows I know how it is not to feel great” said Venus
Next vs. Halep
Venus will play in the next round Simona Halep. The Romanian has beaten Andrea Petkovic 7-6 (4) 6-3. Head to head is 2-0 for Venus. This is going to be their first match on hard courts.
