Petra Kvitova had a rather adventurous and short run at this edition of the French Open. The talented Czech won the first round after saving a match point with a thunderous backhand when facing Greetje Minnen, but she was later stopped by a freak accident.
As per Petra’s statement, she fell and hurt her ankle during the “press requirements” that followed her first round. She will try to do everything she can to be fit for the grass-court season.
This was her statement
“It is with great disappointment that I announce my withdrawal from Roland Garros. During my post-match press requirements on Sunday I fell and hurt my ankle. Unfortunately, after an MRI and much discussion with my team, I have made the tough decision that it would be unwise to play on it. It’s incredibly bad luck, but I will stay strong and do my best to recover in time for the grass-court season.”
Petra Kvitova was meant to face Elena Vesnina in the 2nd round.
