Nadal and Lopez bring back Spain in the Davis Cup World Group

A good news for the Spanish tennis as their Davis Cup Team is back to the Davis Cup World Group after defeating Ukraine 3-0.

After losing to Canada in February, Spain was curiously risking to lose its right to be in the World Group. We say curiously because Spain has won 5 Davis Cup in the last years and it’s the best represented nation in the top 100.

Luckily enough they could take advantage of Rafael Nadal that after defeating Stakhovsky 6-0 6-0 6-4 in the first rubber, he teamed up with Marc Lopez to win also the doubles.

The third point came from Fernando Verdasco that has defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-2.

Rafa: Spain deserves it

Talking about the doubles Rafa said “We had the match under control, but at the start of the second set I had a bit of a slump.

“But we got the breaks in the third and fourth sets at the right moment and were able to finish the match off.

“We are still in the World Group and I think that a country with so many players in the top 100 deserves it.”
