Paes and Stepanek triumph in New York!

What a tournament for Paes and Stepanek!

After beating the Bryans in the semi-final the couple annihilates Peya and Soares in 72 minutes to win 6-1 6-3.

The match was a complete one way traffic with Leander and Radek getting a very fast 5-0 lead in the opener to win it 6-1. The second set wasn’t a thriller as well with Leander and Radek getting an early lead and win 6-3.

This is their second slam after winning the Australian Open in 2012. Now aged 40, Leander Paes has got this title for the 3rd time after 2006 (with Martin Damm) and 2009 (with Lukas Dlouhy)… and you know what? They are both also from the Czech Republic!

Paes: This one really means a lot to me

The Indian veteran was particularly happy to win this title after a very tough year “This one really means a lot to me, because through this year we both had to handle a lot of adversity,” said Paes

Stepanek: I never lost the belief

Radek underwent a tricky spinal surgery early this year (and this is not good for a tennis player) to comment “I never lost the belief that I could come back and Leander was always in my corner, waiting for me,”

Next the Barclays Finals

Leander has won just everything in his career and he is missing only one trophy: the ATP World Tour Final “That’s the trophy which is missing in Leander’s showcase. That’s what I’m very focused on, that’s what I would like to deliver,” commented Stepanek.
