It’s Serena again!!!
The American no.1 wins her 17th slam against a very tough and die-hard Victoria Azarenka.
With this title Serena grabs her 17th slam (the 5th in New York) and her 55th career title. In addition the world no.1 wins also 3.6 Mil usd including 1mil for producing the best results during the North American summer… a nice summer for Serena.
The match
The match with Vika was a kind of a thriller. Serena gained a comfortable lead in to be 7-5 4-1 up (2 breaks ahead). The American had also the opportunity to serve for the Championship in the second set when she was leading 5-4. Strange enough she dropped her serve and she lost the set. Game over? Vika on top of the match? Not really! Serena regrouped and… bye bye… a nice and smooth 6-1 gives the decider and the title to the American.
The match was a bit filled with unforced errors caused by quite a strong wind (35 for Serena and 27 for Vika). Eventually Serena scored 109 points vs. Vika’s 91.

After winning the match Serena had very nice words about Vika to comment “Vika’s such a great opponent, such a great fighter, and that’s why she’s been able to win multiple Grand Slams. That’s why it was never over until match point.”
