Incredible stuff at the US Open!
Stanislas Wawrinka not only defeats, but demolishes the US Open defending Champion Andy Murray Andy.
The match was a surprising one way traffic with Wawrinka not conceding a single break point to break Andy 4 times. Finally the Swiss won 107 points vs. Murray’s 78.
Wawrinka: It was a crazy match for me
Stanislas was over the moon after this victory to comment “It’s amazing for sure – especially here, especially after that match. Andy is the defending champion. He’s a tough opponent. I’m just really happy. It was a crazy match for me. To beat him in three sets is just amazing.”
Murray: He played great
Andy was quite downbeat to comment “I thought he played great. That was the hardest part of the match. 5-4 game in the first set was important game. I had a chance to close it out; he had quite a few chances. I made a few mistakes. But I mean, for the most part I didn’t create break point chance, so he served well. He hit a lot of lines, was going for big shots, and he played too well.”
Next vs. Nole
Stan will play Novak Djokovic in the semifinal. Head to head is 13-2 for Nole, but the Serb doesn’t really like to play against Stan. Last match at the Australian Open was an absolute epic with Nole winning 12-10 in the 5th set.
