That was really nasty for Roger.
The Swiss Maestro couldn’t really put a ball in to lose in straight and painful sets against Tommy Robredo at the US Open.
Roger was caught in a series of unforced (and sometimes embarrassing) errors (45) to be broken 4 times. Once again his break point conversion was horrible to break Robredo only twice with 16 break points. Match stats.

Tommy was very lucid n his interpretation of the match to say “I beat the best guy of all time… in a place that he loves to play, I’m delighted.
I made the break points, he did not. I think that was the only difference.”
Roger: It was a frustrating performance today.
The 5 times champion was absolutely disappointed by his performance to comment. “I kind of feel like I beat myself, without taking any credit away from Tommy.
Clearly he was making sure he was making many balls. It was up to me to make the difference and I couldn’t. I kind of self destructed, which is very disappointing, especially on a quicker court. Your serve helps you out. You’re going to make the difference somewhere.
I just couldn’t do it. It was a frustrating performance today.”
Next vs. Nadal
Once again we are not going to see another Federer, Nadal epic, but Tommy Robredo will have the opportunity to try to make another incredible upset to play Rafa in the quarters. Head to head is 6-0 for Nadal.
