Djokovic beats Becker in straight sets to get to the 3rd round

A good straight set win, but that wasn’t easy.

Nole had to battle against both Becker and a windy weather that made both players to commit many unforced errors (26 for Nole and 36 for Becker). After a tricky opener the world no.1 managed to breeze through in the following 2 sets to finally score 102 points vs. Becker’s 73. Match Stats.

Nole: a lot of uforced errors

After the match Nole commented “It was very tough. It was a lot of unforced errors, very windy conditions. You couldn’t really read and kind of predict where the ball is going to go, so you have to be very alert. At the start I had difficulty with my footwork. But as I won a set after that, it was very much, much better.”

Next vs. Sousa

Nole will play world no.95 Joao Sousa from Portugal in the 3rd round.  Joao is having a wonderful tournament to defeat Grigor Dimitrov in the first round and Nieminem in the second (both in 5 sets).  This will be the first match between Sousa and Djokovic.
