Stefanos Tsitsipas is having a great season with a 26-6 win-loss record so far. Even better, the Greek sensation is the world number 1 in the so-called year-to-date rankings. There is still a lot of tennis to be played this year, but Stefanos Tsitsipas is quite versatile, so he is expected to perform well on every surface and have a strong rank by the end of the year.

During the press conference carried before the Madrid Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas talked about his ranking ambitions confirming that he would like to end the year in the top 3.

“Of course, I’m far from there yet. I have to get these matches going, produce better tennis. We’ll have to fight again. It’s a new week for me. It will a new week for me in Rome. All these tournaments are important. They carry a lot of points.

These tournaments are kind of opportunities for me to pursue something better. Right now I’m in the lead of the Race to Turin, which is very important for me. I want to conserve that and finish the year perhaps in the top three. That would be a good, fair goal for me for this year.”

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a fantastic performance in his last two tournaments in Monte Carlo and Barcelona. He conquered his maiden ATP 1000 in the Principality before reaching the final in Barcelona, where he was not able to convert a championship point when facing Rafael Nadal in the final. That was a huge disappointment for Stefanos, but also the confirmation that he can be consistent week-in-week-out playing against the very best of the sport.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is seeded number 4 in Madrid, where he was the runner-up in the last edition that was played in 2019. The world number 5 will play his first match against either Benoit Paire or Nikoloz Basilashvili.
