Naomi Osaka played her first match of the European clay-court season on Friday to beat her compatriot Misaki Doi in straight sets and face Karolina Muchova in the 2nd round.
The Japanese sensation admitted that she was not sure about her performance on clay since she didn’t play on that surface for a couple of years. Naomi didn’t start very well against Misaki Doi to immediately go two games down. She later recovered and she won the first set 7-5 after failing to serve out the set when she was leading 5-4. The final score was 6-2.
After the match, Osaka posted on Instagram a post saying: “First clay day. Happy with how it went.”
