Laura Robson reaches the third round in New York

So far so good.

Laura Robson had a good start of the US Open to reach the third round with another 3rd set win.

Laura wrapped up the match against world no. 75 (and 19 years of age) Caroline Garcia after 1 hour and 35 minutes. During the match there was a little thriller when Laura asked for a medical time out when she was soon after the first set. Laura had her wristed taped and she got some pain killers.

Finally the Brit won the math 6-4 7-6 (5). Match stats.

Laura about the medical time out.

“I just felt like I needed some more tape on my wrist, that’s all we did,” she said. “It’s fine. I’m going to get treatment on it and get it ready for Friday.”

Talking about her opponent she said “I thought I played really well and I served really well, and I’m looking forward to the next round

I think she’s a great player and she’s had some tough matches in the past, where she should have won and nerves have got to her.

That’s kind of what I was focusing on at the end of the second set when she was serving for it – try to play aggressive and let her get a bit nervous.”

Next vs. Na Li

Laura will play seed no. 5 Na Li that has defeated Sofia Ardvisson 6-2 6-2. The match between Laura and the Chinese  is a reply of last year’s match as these two played at the US Open and also in the third round. Na Li won 6-4 6-7 (5) 6-2. Time to avenge that?
