Federer, Nadal, Djokovic join legends in tennis celebration in New York

What a “tennis night” in New York!

The ATP celebrates the 40th anniversary of the rankings with many world no.1s for  the last 4 decades starting from the 1st  (world no.1) Ilie Nastase to the last and current one Novak Djokovic.

There were many nice comments from Djokovic to Federer, McEnroe etc.

Djokovic: I am really honoured to be here

“Growing up, in early childhood, you are inspired to show that love and appreciation and passion towards the sport, and of course there is this big drive – waking up every morning, working so hard, developing skills – to be No. 1 in the world. ‘Not many players have achieved that and to sit with fellow champions… I’m really honoured to be here.”  Said Nole

Federer: It was important to have somebody to look up to

Roger was pretty happy to be on the stage with Stefan Edberg that was his childhood idol to comment  “It was important for me to have someone to look up to.

I know there’s been a huge sacrifice at the players’ level, just this generation and the players sitting here tonight, and even before that.”

McEnroe about the current trio

Big Mc had a very nice remark on Roger, Rafa and Nole to comment “These guys are carrying the torch so beautifully”.

Finally there was a mention about the effort done by the former ATP CEO Brad Drewett on his achievements and all his effort. Brad didn’t last much in that role as he passed away for a rare disease, but he left the mark during his brief tenure.
