Sharapova withdraws from the US Open

That was a surprise! We have been speculating a lot about Maria’s possible name change for the US Open to now have unexpected news:  she will not play the US Open!

Maria: It was a tough decision

Maria posted on facebook: “Withdrawing from the U.S. Open has been a really tough decision to make. I have done everything I could since Wimbledon to get myself ready but it just wasn’t enough time. I have done many tests, received several opinions and it all comes down to taking the proper amount of time to heal my shoulder injury properly.”

The US Open: We look forward to her return next year

David Brewer, the tournament directori, announced “Maria has informed us that she will be unable to compete at the U.S. Open this year due to a right shoulder bursitis and has withdrawn from the tournament,

We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her return to New York next year”.

Strange moment for Maria.

The Russian beauty has been experiencing a strange moment, we would say a strange year. First there was the relationship with Baby Fed Grigor Dimitrov that has been “heavily gossiped” since last December.

Then there was strange early exit in Wimbledon second round where she also got injured. After that she had to retire from a couple of tournaments (Stanford and Toronto) to recover and crash out in the opener in Cincinnati.

After losing in Cincinnati she fired her coach tennis legend Jimmy Connors (actually he lasted only 1 match!) to then spread a “genius rumour” about a possible name change in the US Open to be called Sugarpova (after her candy line). Now she is not even playing the US Open.

Time to bring some real tennis results once again?
