Emotional Naomi Osaka comments on the conviction of George Floyd’s murderer

This is what Naomi Osaka said about the conviction of the murderer of George Floyd

Naomi Osaka On George Floyd

Naomi Osaka has always been quite active in protesting against the violence toward the black community in the US. Finally, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for the horrible murder of George Floyd. Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and manslaughter.

The sentence means that Chauvin will face 12.5 years in prison. However, prosecutors could seek a longer sentence up to the maximum of 40 years if Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill concludes that there were “aggravating factors.”

Naomi Osaka’s reaction

Naomi was obviously happy for the conviction of Chauvin. However, she could not hide her sadness for the overall situation. She tweeted:

“I was going to make a celebratory tweet but then I was hit with sadness because we are celebrating something that is clear as day. The fact that so many injustices occurred to make us hold our breath toward this outcome is really telling.”

Naomi Osaka is not competing since the 31st of March. She will be back to competitions on the occasion of the Madrid Open that will start the next week.
