Cori Gauff, like Naomi Osaka and all of us, was horrified by the terrible murder of George Floyd that happened during the summer last year. The 17 years old applauded the sentence that convicted former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who was the perpetrator of the murder.
As of now, Chauvin will face 12.5 years in prison, but his sentence can go up to 40 years if Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill concludes that there were “aggravating factors.”

Serena Williams
It doesn’t seem that Serena Williams released any comments on social media about the sentence. However, the American legend has always been extremely active in defending and supporting the black community setting up an example for both Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff.

Ranked world no.35 (career-high), the American played her last match on the 9th of April when she was overcome by world no.25 Ons Jabeur 6-3 6-3 in the quarter in Charleston (draw).
This year Cori achieved a compiled 14-7 record. Cori Gauff’s most significant result of this season was getting to the semifinal in Adelaide.
Naomi Osaka in 2021
Currently ranked no.2, Naomi played her last match on the 31st of March when she lost to world no.19 Maria Sakkari 6-0 6-4 in the quarter in Miami (draw).
At present, during this year Naomi has a 12-1 match record. Osaka conquered 1 title at the Australian Open.
Cori Gauff and Naomi Osaka faced off only 2 times. Their current record is 1-1. Previously, the last time they competed against each other, Cori Gauff won 6-3 6-4 in the 3rd round in Melbourne (Australian Open) in January 2020.
