No change name for Maria Sharapova

Maria’s agent denies the rumour about a promotional name change for the Russian to Sugarpova

That was quite a quirky idea, and to tell the truth that was a great marketing wizardry!

Yesterday there was a widespread rumour that Maria Sharapova would have changed her name to Sugarpova to promote her candy line. Apparently Maria wanted also to put the Sugarpova logo (a pair of red lips, on her clothes during the tournament in New York.

From Maria’s team

Max Eisenbud, Sharapova’s agent, told to ESPN that at the end they have voted against it.

“Maria has pushed her team to do fun, out-of-the-box-type things to get the word out about Sugarpova.

In Miami, we’re going to fill a glass truck full of candy and drive it around town. This was an idea that fell along those lines. But, at the end of the day, we would have to change all her identification, she has to travel to Japan and China right after the tournament and it was going to be very difficult.”

The interesting thing is that just spreading the rumour of this bizarre idea made headlines… so chapeaux to Maria’s marketing team… genius stuff!!!
