Stefanos Tsitsipas won his first ATP 1000 Monte Carlo after defeating Andrey Rublev in the final. Before facing the Russian, he hinted that he wanted to do something that his mother did before, but nobody was sure of its meaning. Eventually, after the final, it was disclosed that Stefano’s mother actually won Monte Carlo (juniors) in 1981.
After winning the final, Stefanos revealed:
“She showed me that name up there. I was stunned. I was like, ‘Wow, that is really cool. How cool is that?’
I didn’t think about it in the beginning of the tournament, but it came to my mind when I was playing the semi-finals. I was thinking that would be really cool to be in this together, like mother like son.
That’s where the whole purpose came from. I feel like there was an enormous amount of willingness to want to do more in order to be there with my mom.”
After winning the tournament in Monte Carlo, Stefanos had to fly to Barcelona, where he will also try to win the local ATP 500 where Rafael Nadal will be the hot favorite. In the meantime, the Greek sensation became the world number one in the year-to-date rankings.

Ranked world no.5 (career-high), Tsitsipas played his last match on the 18th of April when he beat world no.7 Andrey Rublev 6-3 6-3 in the final in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters to win his 6th career title.
This year Stefanos has managed to achieve an overall 22-5 match record. This year, Stefanos clinched 1 title in Monte Carlo. Stefanos was the runner-up in Acapulco.

Ranked world no.7 (career-high), Rublev played his last match on the 18th of April when he lost to world no.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3 6-3 in the final in the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (draw).
Until now, during this year Rublev achieved a compiled 24-5 record. Andrey clinched 1 title in Rotterdam. Andrey was the runner-up in Monte Carlo.
