Naomi Osaka decided to take a long break after she lost in the quarterfinal Miami at the hands of Maria Sakkari in straight sets. Naomi will be back to competitions only next week on the occasion of the Madrid Open. Still, the Japanese sensation maintains her second spot in the rankings.
Serena Williams didn’t play a single match since the Australian Open when Naomi Osaka defeated her in the semi-finals. The 23-time slam champion was meant to be back to competition on the occasion of the Miami Open. However, oral surgery prevented Serena from playing in Florida. Williams is scheduled to come back for the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome in May. Despite her long absence, the American legend remains ranked number 8.
Coco Gauff reached the quarter-finals in the Volvo Car Open in Charleston. Unfortunately, the American teenager got injured during the tournament to skip the following events. Coco is widely expected to stage her come back to competitions also on the occasion of the Madrid Open. Coco Gauff is still ranked number 35, which represents her career-high.
