Rankings: Nadal world no.2, Federer crashes to no.7, Berdych at career high no.5

We had many changes this week in the ATP rankings.

Nadal

The King of Clay, Hard Courts, Mallorca… (whatever … ) gets back to world no.2 and he is by far the favourite to finish the year as world no.1 as Djokovic has to defend tons of points (4710) and Rafa none. So the 2120pts gap dividing Rafa and Nole will be not enough for the Serb to keep his top position. If you consider that Rafa is playing an incredible tennis… and Nole is wobbling…well you understand that the Djoker  will have to renounce to his no.1 rank any soon.

Murray

Now world no.3. Nadal up, Murray down.  After every important win (ie. US Open and Wimbledon) we always expect that a new “Murray era” is going to start, so far we are always disappointed. Will we ever be able to witness this “Murray era”?

Roger

The Maestro is struggling.. a lot! We were really happy to see him playing like the the Roger Federer we know in Cincinnati (just a bit). That wasn’t enough to beat a Rafael Nadal that looks to be close to his prime (or maybe at his prime?), but at least we see that there is hope for the Maestro. For the moment Roger has to go back to a world no.7. We hope to see him back to where he belongs (or at least he used to belong).

Berdych

Tomas is not having his finest season.  He didn’t win any tournament so far (and he has reached only 1 final in Marseille), but he went deep enough in many tournaments to achieve lots of “baby steps points”. For this reason, and maybe also for a declining Federer, he finds himself at a career high rank. no5.

Raonic

Last in, first out. Milos broke in the top 10 last week to crash out immediately after a very disappointing Cincinnati. He will have time to get back… hopefully!

Isner

Big Johny had a superb Cincinnati to reach the final after beating Mr. Djokovic (no bad) and without conceding a single break point to Mr.Nadal in the final.  Isner gained 8 positions as a result and he gave a strong answer to people criticizing the American system for not having any player in the top 20… well still not satisfactory for such a nation!

Tomic

Time to cry once again for Bernard. The eternal-future-tennis star loses other 10 positions to be ranked world no.52. We are still anxious to see him getting higher in the rankings. The top ten look quite far away.
