1 STAT. Why Tsitsipas was much more solid than Rublev in Monte Carlo

This was a key element for Stefanos Tsitsipas to beat Andrey Rublev in the final of the ATP 1000 in Monte Carlo

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas had a fantastic performance against Andrey Rublev in the Monte Carlo final to clinch his first Master ATP 1000. Stefanos Tsitsipas won the 6-3 6-3 also thanks to a much more solid tennis than the one featured by his counterpart. Tsitsipas’ topspin seemed to be more effective than Rublev’s flat shots especially in not causing so many unforced errors.

Tennis journalist Matthew Willis published a very interesting figure highlighting the difference between the clearance over the net of Tsitsipas’s shots compared to Rublev’s. The difference was around 30 cm on average for each shot (forehand and backhand). That means that Tsitsipas had a much better margin of error.

Eventually, Rublev hit 21 unforced errors versus Tsitsipas’ 10.

There is not much time for Stefanos Tsitsipas to celebrate his fantastic winner in the Principality, since the Greek sensation had to fly to Barcelona to prepare his run for the upcoming ATP 500 where he will be the favorite number 2 soon after Rafael Nadal.
