Dominic Thiem is having a rather bad 2021. The US Open champion has a depressing 5-4 win-loss record this year and his best result was only reaching the quarter-final in Doha.
Apparently, Dominic has been struggling with all sorts of physical issues that are making it very difficult for him to compete at his best. After losing in the second round in Dubai to the world number 51 Harris Lloyd, Thiem decided not to play the following tournaments in Miami and Monte Carlo. Dominic Thiem had the idea of coming back on the occasion of the ATP 250 in Belgrade, but eventually, he had to pull out, citing a knee injury.
“Unfortunately I will have to cancel my start at next week’s tournament. My knee hurts and I went to see a doctor. It is not a big issue but I need to take care of it. I am definitely not fit enough to play next week,” said Thiem.
Entry List
Novak Djokovic will be the supreme favorite to win the home tournament. Unfortunately, some other top players had to withdraw. The organization had to register the defections of Gael Monfils, Stan Wawrinka, and Borna Coric, to name a few. The seed number 2 will probably be Matteo Berrettini that is also not in his best condition.
Nevertheless, local fans will have the opportunity to see some exciting players such as the American rising star Sebastian Korda.
