Serena Williams’ coach explains why Tsitsipas hasn’t won a slam so far.

Patrick Mouratoglou is convinced that Stefanos Tsitsipas will win a slam. But before he needs to fix this issue

Stefanos Tsitsipas has the luxury of being followed by Serena Williams’ coach Patrick Mouratoglou. The Frenchman is widely considered a guru of the sport of tennis, and Stefanos has huge faith in his directions.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is saving a couple of weird years. The Greek sensation showed multiple times that he can beat the very best. As Patrick pointed out, Stefanos has already defeated the likes of Roger Federer in a slam, Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal. Nevertheless, Tsitsipas has never completed a deep run in any important tournament except for the ATP Finals he won in 2019.

His low level too low

According to Patrick Mouratoglou, one of Tsitsipas’ biggest problems was that his low level was too low. Therefore, when Stefanos was having bad days like it always happens during a slam, he was panicking so as not to find the proper solutions to deal with tricky situations.

“[Tsitsipas’] low level was very low in the past and that is why he often lost early in Grand Slams. What happened at the recent US Open against Coric. You have good days and bad days during a Grand Slam that lasts 15 days. Whoever wins a Grand Slam is capable of winning a match even on a bad day,” said Patrick.

“He used to panic often in these moments that are psychological but also a matter of tactics. Because he was in a panic, he was playing very fast and very flat and you add stress to the already existing stress.

When you play flat, the ball returns flat, and you can not speed up the game in moments of pressure and stress. This takes stress to the next level. I think he has understood that and now he plays with more height and depth in the moments when he is under pressure.”

Stefanos is now in Monte Carlo, where is he will play against Aslan Karatsev in his opening match. This will be a tough test for the world number 5 that is still considered the favourite, but the Russian has already won too many matches this year, going against the odds.
