Lorenzo Musetti was hoping to have a good run in Monte Carlo, but eventually, he was stopped by Aslan Karatsev with a straightforward 6-3 6-4 scoreline. The new Italian sensation looked to be completely outplayed by the Russians. Karatsev was extremely aggressive push back Musetti in his court position.
After losing the match, Lorenzo admitted that he didn’t feel very confident about his chances of winning the match. He stated:
“Today, I didn’t feel the ball well; maybe I didn’t enter the field convinced that I could really win. Karatsev put his feet on my head from the first game, he didn’t let me enter the exchange, and I had a hard time hitting the way I wanted.
The conditions were a bit different from Cagliari, I felt the ball very heavy on the racket and I couldn’t push.
In recent times I have always improved my ranking, also from this week, I will gain a lot of experience, after all, it was my first participation here in Monte Carlo.
Now focus on Barcelona, where I will try to pass the qualifications, also to prepare Rome at best.”
Karatsev will play on Tuesday against the Stefanos Tsitsipas in what will be probably the most interesting match of the day.
