ATP Rankings. Nadal is world no.3, Raonic in top 10, Janowicz at career high

We had a lot of changes this week in the rankings. (See rankings here)

Nadal

The most important one is Rafa getting the 3rd spot. The Spaniard doesn’t need to defend any point from here till the Australian Open to be the hot favourite to finish as world no.1 by the end of the year (if he doesn’t get injured to his knee… hope not!).

Raonic

Milos Raonic finally breaks into the top 10 after reaching a wonderful final in Montreal. The Canadian is just 20 points above Richard Gasquet (now world no.11), but that is enough.

Janowicz

Super Jerzy is now world no. 14 (career high). The Pole is definitely going for more as his tennis and confidence is improving more and more.  He is already playing as a top 10 player. Rafa had to play really hard to beat him in Montreal.

Wawrinka

Stan is having quite a lousy stint as he lost 4 of the last 5 matches to crash out in the openers in Wimbledon and Montreal, and lose in the second round in Gstaad. But a declining Gasquet helped him to reach the 9th spot (career high).

Pospisil

The “other Canadian” gained 31 positions to be ranked world no.40 after reaching the semis in Toronto. Vasek is having an excellent run as before Montreal he has won the Challenger in Vancouver and he reached the semifinal in Bogota’.

Matosevic

Marinko is another winner of the week. The Australian came straight from the qualifications to lose to Nadal in the quarters in Montreal. This run allowed Matosevic to gain 18 positions and be ranked world no. 56.

American Tennis – Disaster!!!

This is the sad note of the day as there is no player from USA in the top 20. Some months ago everybody was surprised that there was nobody from the States in the top 10, now this…. What’s next?
