Serena Williams beats Sorana Cirstea to triumph in Toronto

Too much Serena… too much Serena.

When the world no.1 plays at her best there is nothing to do for the others. Serena won this tournament without conceding a single set and dropping only 22 games. .. and that was it!

This final was a sort of a massacre. Sorana Cirstea tried everything, but the only thing she could achieve against Serena was a very brief stint of glory when she managed to win 2 consecutive games when she was 0-3 down in the opening set. Then… game over. Serena regrouped to win 9 consecutive games and win her 54th career title.  The match ended after 1 hour with Serena winning 56 points vs. Sorana’s 31. Match stats.

Serena: For me it’s always about constantly improving

A very happy Serena commented after the match “No tournament is ever easy, especially being in the position I am in.

The tournament starts and they expect you to win. And the tournament is like, ‘You’re going to be in the final and after your semifinal I want you to do this, and you have to do this and this press.’ Who knows if I’ll even make it to the semifinals? It’s a lot of pressure. It’s not easy.”

“For me it’s always about constantly improving and never saying ‘I did great and I can be satisfied,’ . I did great, but what can I do better? What can I improve on? That’s what I always strive for. When I get satisfied, and for a lot of players, the level goes down.” she added.

Sorana: For me it’s been a really positive week

Sorana had a really good week to beat so many top players (Wozniacki, Jankovic, Kvitova and Na Li). From Monday Sorana will be rankd world 21 (career high) and now she knows she can compete against the very best.

“For me it’s been a really positive week and I’m going to take everything that well to the next tournament,

I was surprised to see how many Romanians there were out there and how many flags I’ve seen. It was an incredible atmosphere and it made me feel like home when they were screaming, supporting me and saying positive things. I’m looking forward to coming back here.” she said.

Well Done!
