Great Raonic wins a dramatic semis against his friend Pospisil in Montreal.

What a great stuff for Tennis Canada. The North Americans are breaking more and more in the tennis scene to place two players in the Montreal semifinal and one of them (Milos Raonic) will break into the top 10 from this coming Monday.

The Match

The match between these two was quite tense and also quirky. In fact, although Milos is now the strongest player, he was quite used in the past (juniors) to lose to Pospisil. That’s maybe is why the match went to the decider.

After winning he first set 6-4, Milos had to bow in the second set 6-1 when he was able to score only 15 points vs. Pospisil’s 27. Then the third set went straight to the tiebreak as no player did concede a single break point.  Eventually it was Milos to win the breaker at 4 and win the match after 2 hours and 16 minutes. So Vasek score more points (100 vs. Raonic’s 92), but he lost the match. Match Stats.

Milos: For me it’s a very special day

Talking about this week’s accomplishments Milos commented “I think the Top 10 one stands out definitely more just because it’s a goal that I set out this year. To be able to do it here in Montréal is pretty amazing.

It’s not even just for myself. Now I understand we have two Canadians that are beyond what the record was from before for highest ranked Canadian.

I think that’s just significant on its own. For me it’s a very special day to at least get to a goal I set for myself earlier this year, which looked a little bit difficult after how I played recently. But to do it here in Montréal, it’s a relief and it’s a happy feeling.”

Pospisil

Vasek is having a great moment to reach the semifinal after having won the challenger in Vancouver. The Canadian will break into the top 40 after this week to comment  “We played each other so many times.  We grew up together.  I don’t think either one wanted to lose.

Maybe if it was somebody else, who knows, maybe I would have won, and I wouldn’t have gotten a little bit nervous at the end. I think somebody had to lose it, and unfortunately for me it was me.”

The Final vs. Rafa

Milos will play Nadal in the final. Head to head is 3-0 for Rafa and Ilos hasn’t succeeded so far to win a single set against the Spaniard. Time to break another record?
