Jannik Sinner has just ended a great run at the Miami Open where he reached the final before losing to his dear friend Hubert Hurkacz.
The men’s draw of this edition of the Miami Open had the big characteristic that the Big3 were not part of the lineup. The absence of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic proved to be a great opportunity especially for the upcoming players to have a good result in South Florida.
Sinner talking about the Big3
When asked about the Next Generation, Jannik said that there are many exciting players that are definitely fun to watch. However, they are not yet at the same level as the big 3, which are still much more consistent. Jannik commented
“I think the next generation, it’s fun to watch, first of all, because many players don’t know each other that well. Many fans don’t know that well the next generation. Here were a lot of players in quarter-finals from next generation, semi-finals, final today was next generation, and in the whole tournament putting in everyone, I think it’s nice to see.
But you know, the next generation still has to show that they can beat the big 3, because obviously, maybe they lose one or two matches, but the next generation that what I see is not ready yet to win against them consistently.”
Sinner’s next steps
Jannik is now back in Monte Carlo, where he is about to get ready for the upcoming ATP 1000. After Monte Carlo, Sinner will play in Barcelona and then Munich.

Now ranked no.23 (career-high), Sinner played his last match on the 4th of April when he lost to world no.16 Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(4) 6-4 in the final in Miami (draw).
At the moment, during this season Jannik has achieved an overall 14-5 win-loss record. This year, The Italian clinched 1 title in Melbourne. Sinner got to the final in Miami.
Rafael Nadal in 2021
At the moment ranked no.3, Rafael played his last match on the 17th of February when he was overcome by world no.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6 2-6 7-6(4) 6-4 7-5 in the quarter of the Australian Open (draw).
Until now, during this year Rafael achieved an overall 4-1 record.
Jannik Sinner and Rafael Nadal squared off just on 1 occasion. Their current record is 1-0 for Nadal. When they played, Rafael Nadal won 7-6(4) 6-4 6-1 in the quarter in Paris (French Open) in October 2020.

Roger Federer in 2021
Now the world no.7, Roger played his last match on the 11th of March when he capitulated to world no.37 Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6 6-1 7-5 in the quarter in Doha (draw).
Until now, during this year Roger has a 1-1 win-loss record.
Novak Djokovic in 2021
Ranked no.1, Novak played his last match on the 21st of February when he beat world no.2 Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-2 6-2 in the final of the Australian Open to win his 82nd career title.
Presently, during this year Djokovic has a 9-0 win-loss record. Djokovic clinched 1 title at the Australian Open.
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic played each other 50 times. The head to head is 27-23 for Djokovic. Previously, the last time they played each other, Novak Djokovic won 7-6(1) 6-4 6-3 in the semifinal in Melbourne (Australian Open) in January 2020.
