Janowicz wins a difficult opener against Benneteau in Montreal

That was a close encounter!

Jerzy Janowicz had a very difficult opener against an unpredictable Julien Benneteau. The Frenchman has the power to beat anybody on the tour and he was very close with a “below the par” Janowicz.

Julien won the first set taking advantage of  many unforced errors from Jerzy. Then the Pole fought back to win the second set, but he had to cope with a 4-2 deficit in the third. Then it was time for Benneteau to melt down and after losing a service game, he was broken again in the 11th game when he committed 3 horrible double faults.

The match ended after 2 hours with both players committing 17 double faults (9 Jerzy, 8 Julien). Jerzy won 96 points vs. Julien’s 95. Match Stats.

Janowicz: I didn’t play my best tennis

Jerzy wasn’t pleased  by his tennis (and he was right) to comment “Today I didn’t play my best tennis.

After the match in Hamburg, I didn’t practise at all, I only did physical training. I only started hitting in Montreal, so I’m not in top shape. I was struggling a little bit, but without my best game I was able to win. Maybe Julien got a little bit nervous when he hit three double faults in his last service game.”

Next vs. Dankevic

Jerzy will play next match against world no. 169 Franc Dancevic. The Canadian Wildcard defeated Yen-Hsun Lu 5-7 7-6 (6) 6-1.  This wil be the first time they play each other.

…what about Nadal Janowicz?

If Jerzy wins, we can have a tasty Nadal – Janowicz in the third round.
