Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Amanda Anisimova, and Cori Gauff are about to play in Charleston and they are probably the most interesting American players to follow in South Carolina.
Sofia Kenin in 2021
Ranked world no.4 (career-high), the American played her last match on the 28th of March when she was defeated by world no.30 Ons Jabeur 6-4 4-6 6-4 in the 3rd round in Miami (draw).
Sofia had appendix surgery back in February, soon after the Australian Open. She has tried to come back in the Miami Open, but she was not at her best yet. She will be seeded the number two in South Carolina and if she’s fully fit, she is one of the top favorites to win the tournament.
At present, during this year Kenin has managed to achieve a compiled 7-5 win-loss record.
Amanda Anisimova in 2021
Now the world no.32, the American played her last match on the 28th of March when she was overcome by world no.9 Bianca Andreescu 7-6(4) 6-7(2) 6-4 in the 3rd round in Miami (draw).
Amanda has not played much in 2021. Unfortunately, she tested positive for the coronavirus right before heading to Melbourne. That means that she missed the entire Australian summer and all the strings of tournaments attached to it with the first major of the year included.
The American teenager looked to be in good form at the Miami Open where she had to surrender only to Bianca Andreescu after a tough match.
Currently, during this season Anisimova has a compiled 3-2 record.
Sofia Kenin and Amanda Anisimova played each other only twice. Their record is 1-1. The last time they fought against each other, Sofia Kenin won 6-4 6-3 in the 2nd round in Tyler (Tyler) in November 2017.
Cori Gauff in 2021
Ranked world no.36, Cori played her last match on the 25th of March when she capitulated to world no.57 Anastasija Sevastova 1-6 6-2 6-3 in the 2nd round in Miami (draw).
This year Cori has a 11-6 match record. Cori Gauff’s most significant result of the present year was reaching the semifinal in Adelaide.
Coco had a huge disappointment at the Miami Open after she crashed out in her first match. However, she is determined to have a good stint to improve her rankings. She is scheduled to play 4 tournaments in a row. Charleston is the first one of the series.
Madison Keys in 2021
Currently ranked no.19, Madison played her last match on the 25th of March when she lost to world no.338 Ana Konjuh 6-4 6-2 in the 2nd round in Miami (draw).
Currently, during this season Madison has a 2-3 match record.
