Jannik Sinner had a fantastic training experience for 14 days with the great Rafael Nadal right before the Australian Open. That was a crucial experience for the 19 years old. Jannik had the opportunity to see first-hand how a great champion prepares for an important event.
It was Jannik’s coach Riccardo Piatti that pushed the idea of Sinner training with Rafa in Adelaide. During a recent interview, Riccardo commented:
“Of course I was very happy because you need to live with these guys. These guys are quite simple and focused about what they are doing and Jannik likes this and he understands that Rafa is quite similar to him. The only difference is he won 20 Slams. Small difference.
He understands, ‘Okay if I do everything correct and I’m young and I need to continue like this, I can reach some of my dreams.’ It was in the perfect moment of his career. I think that these 14 days for Jannik were perfect to understand Rafa’s mind.”
Probably those 14 days were more important than the Australian Open itself for Jannik.

Jannik is about to play the Miami Open final after an astonishing run in South Florida. If Sinner wins the tournament, he will be ranked the world number 14 from next Monday.

At the moment ranked no.31 (career-high), Jannik achieved a 14-4 record in 2021. Sinner is participating in Miami where he bested Hugo Gaston 6-2 6-2, Karen Khachanov 4-6 7-62 6-4, Emil Ruusuvuori 6-3 6-2, Alexander Bublik 7-65 6-4 and Roberto Bautista Agut 5-7 6-4 6-4.
The Italian has won 1 title in 2021 in Melbourne.

At the moment ranked no.3, Nadal played his last match on the 17th of February when he was overcome by world no.5 Stefanos Tsitsipas 3-6 2-6 7-6(4) 6-4 7-5 in the quarter of the Australian Open (draw).
Currently, during this season Rafael has achieved a 4-1 record.
