Gulbis advances, Tomic crashes again in an opener. Tipsarevic in free fall.

We had quite a different result for two of the most interesting players on tour.

Gulbis

Mad Max Gulbis had a good victory against Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (4) 6-4 in 1 hour and 40 minutes (stats) This was an important win for the Latvian that was coming from two consecutive losses in Stuttgart and Hamburg. Ernest will play either Fabio Fognini (H2H 2-1 for Gulbis) or Marcos Baghdatis (H2H 4-2 for Baghdatis).

Tomic

Bernard can’t really get it. Now ranked world 41, the Australian is really struggling to get any consistency in his results. This time Tomic had to bow in 3 sets to Florian Mayer (ranked world no.50). We hope at least that Bernard’s father will contain his frustration…

… and Tipsarevic?

Janko is having a miserable season. He has an horrible 14-17 record. This is the 10th tournament in 2013 where he has crashed in first round and he is now ranked world no.19 (and he is not getting any better). Janko didn’t really offr any opposition to world no. 66 Denis Istomin to lose 6-4 6-3 in 80 minutes.
