Azarenka beats Ivanovic to clash with Stosur in Carlsbad final

That was quite an erratic semifinal!

Vika Azarenka had the perfect start to serve a bagel (6-0) to Ana Ivanovic. Even if the first set had such a nasty score the two players were not so uneven as Vika won 37 points vs. Ana’s 22 in the opener.

In the second set the Serbian Beauty did fight back to win 6-4 to then fall again the third. The match ended after 1 hour and 53 minutes with Ivanovic committing 9 double faults and Azarenka 7.  Ana lost her serve 6 times out of 13 serving games (far too many). Match stats.

From Vika

“The first set, the score didn’t say the whole story, because there were a lot of close games.

I had to come from 15-40 down a few times and take my opportunities. And that’s what was good about the first set, that I took those chances. In the second set, I missed a couple of easy shots and she was right there to take those opportunities.” Said Azarenka

From Ana

“In that first set I had so many chances. If you give her chances, she’s going to use them. But I was on a high and started very well in the second set.” said Ivanovic

The final vs. Stosur

Vika will play Sam Stosur in the final. The Australian has beaten Virgine Razzano 7-6 (2) 6-3 in the semifinal. Head to head is 8-0 for Vika.
