Jannik Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti are the 2 golden boys that are making Italy proud. While Jannik started to be noticed by the tennis fans last year, Lorenzo hit the headlines just a couple of weeks ago after reaching the semifinals in Acapulco, starting his run from the qualifications.
Sinner and Musetti have completely different tennis. Jannik is more of a baseline player who hits the ball, having an extremely advanced position using his forehand and 2-handed backhand seamlessly. Musetti plays not so close to the baseline, and his talent and creativity are his 2 biggest weapons. Lorenzo also has a 1-handed backhand that is extremely solid and sheer beauty.
Musetti lost in the 3rd round of the Miami Open, while Sinner has the chance to access the quarterfinal if he beats in his next match Emil Ruusuvuori.
Jannik Sinner has recently talked extremely nicely about Musetti, and Lorenzo reciprocated in a recent interview.
The difference between Sinner and Musetti
“Jannik is a fantastic player,” said Musetti. “I wish him to get as far as possible already in this tournament. He is a mental player, a fighter.
He proved it by winning the battle with Khachanov. We have in common the desire to play aggressively, but also 3 things separate us: he serves and responds better than me, as well as knowing how to play very well close to the line. My natural habitat is a few meters behind, but I’m working hard on it.”
Indeed, Musetti’s biggest problem in his 3 round demise against Cilic was that he was playing too far behind in the court and the Croatian champion took full advantage of it. Musetti will now start the clay-court season on what is his favorite surface. If he played so well on hard court, he will do even better on the dirt.
