Frances Tiafoe will play the seed no.1, Daniil Medvedev, in the 4th round of the Miami Open on Tuesday. Tiafoe has impressed during this tournament for his focus that used to be his Achilles’ heel. In this regard, it is quite obvious the excellent work done with his coach Wayne Ferreira (former world no.6). The South African is well-known for being extremely grounded to be the right person to help Tiafoe to find more continuity in his game.
No phone while working
It is quite well-known that many young players are too distracted by their smartphones and the social networks that float around them. Wayne wrote an interesting article for the ATP explaining the nature of his work. He stressed that not having the phone during the working hours is a must and a little step to improve Frances’ focus.
“If Frances is running, training or playing tennis, there’s no phone. He can do all of that stuff on his own time. When it’s business hours he has to work. When it’s off hours he can do what he wants. Frances is getting better with it,” said Ferreira.
We’ve been trying really hard on something that’s a big problem for him and that’s his ability to stay focussed and keep his attention on the task at hand long enough. We’re trying to do things that allow him to concentrate for longer periods of time so that when it comes to matches.”
Tiafoe vs. Medvedev
Frances Tiafoe and Daniil Medvedev clashed against each other 4 times. Their record is 3-1 for Medvedev. The prediction is Medvedev to win in straight sets. The last time they played, Daniil Medvedev won 6-4 6-1 6-0 in the 4th round in New York (U.S. Open) in September 2020.
