We knew it was coming and… it came.
Roger is really battling to get back a “normal” form after struggling so much with his back. The Maestro has played a couple of very disappointing tournaments after Wimbledon (well.. he didn’t shine also in the Championship) as he was clearly dented by his back.
The Maestro has always in mind playing in Slams and probably give it a shot to Montreal would have caused some more problems for Roger.
So the world no.5 announced on Facebook that “I am disappointed not to be playing in Montreal next week. It is a great tournament with amazing fans. I look forward to competing there in the future.”
Time for Roger to regroup and prepare a great US Open, probably going through Cincinnati to defend his title.
This is extremely disappointing (not withdrawing from Montréal). I am a huge FED fan and am very concerned that he may have to retire from the sport. I really hope he can get this back issue resolved. - Will
