Isner beats Devvarman to reach the quarters in Washington

A good day for Big Johny that had to face his good friend the world no.129 Somdev Devvarman for a place in the quarters.

This was the first time these two were facing each other’s after Isner was upset back in 2007 when the Indian beat John in the NCAA Division I men’s singles championship final. That time it was Devvrman to win, this time it was Isner.

John blasted 12 aces to break Somdev once per set. Actually the difference between these two was a bit “more than the result”. John was just struggling in converting break points (only 2 out of 10) and he didn’t concede any. Match stats
