Azarenka, Ivanovic, Hantuchova advance in Carlsbad

We didn’t have major surprised in Carlsbad with all the top players getting to the next round.

Azarenka – Schiavone 6-2 6-3

Vika didn’t need to struggle too much to beat the former French Open champion Francesca Schiavone. The Belarus conceded only 5 games to the Italian to wrap up the match in 83 minutes. See stats

Vika was quite happy by her performance especially after being out for some time to recover from an injury suffered in Wimbledon. “Just going on the court and competing was so much joy for me. I was really playing and happy to be doing something I was training for. … I don’t think about it [he injuries].”

Vika will play her next match either against Urszula Radwanska or Jelena Jankovic.

Ivanovic – Cibulkova 4-6 6-3 6-2

This was a tough match for Ana Ivanovic. Dominika is playing great tennis to beat Agnieszka Radwanska in the Stanford final last week. The Serbian beauty won this match after 2 hours and 4 minutes blasting a remarkable 10 aces (and a less remarkable 9 double faults)

“As soon as the draw came out I thought it was one of the toughest first-round matches, especially being a seeded player. But I was really happy with my performance. This kind of win obviously means a lot to me.” Said Ana

Ana will plau Coco Vandeweghe the second round. This will be their first match.

Hantuchova – Paszek 6-0 6-0

Daniela served a nasty double bagel to world no. 104 Tamira Paszek. The match was a 47 minutes stroll for the Slovakian that is going to face seed no.2 Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round. Head to head is 5-2 for Agnieszka.
