Cori Gauff and Naomi Osaka are about to start their campaign at the Miami Open where Serena Wiliams has an incredible record. The 23-time slam champion conquered the event 8 times and the first she won this specific tournament was 19 years ago in 2002!
Naomi and Coco haven’t played many times the Miami Open. Naomi competed in this WTA1000 event 4 times and her best result was just reaching the 3rd round on 2 occasions. However, in her opening match in 2018, she defeated Serena for the first time and in straight sets. (see Osaka’s record in Miami)
Coco has just turned 17 and therefore she played the Miami Open only once when she was 15. On that occasion, she defeated her dear friend Caty Mcnally in the opening match before losing to Kasatkina.
Both Naomi and Coco are considered the heirs of Serena Williams, but beating her Miami record will be really tough.
