Denis Shapovalov and Roger Federer will not play the upcoming ATP1000 in Monte Carlo. The tournament will be staged from the 12th of April without fans. Roger Federer was used to skipping this tournament during his career and therefore it is not a shock he won’t play this year. It’s a bit surprising that Shapovalov will not compete. The Canadian is expected to play on clay the following week in Barcelona.
The defending champion is Fabio Fognini that conquered the event back in 2019. Last year, the tournament was not staged because of the pandemic.
Shapovalov in Dubai, ranking, and results in 2021
Currently the world no.12, Shapovalov achieved an overall 5-4 match record in 2021. Shapovalov is currently having a run in Dubai where he conquered Jan-Lennard Struff 6-1 6-3 and Hubert Hurkacz 6-4 6-3.

Roger Federer in 2021
Currently ranked no.6, Federer played his last match on the 11th of March when he was defeated by Nikoloz Basilashvili 3-6 6-1 7-5 in the quarter in Doha (draw).
