“Federer’s ranking is unfair,” says Zverev in Acapulco talking about a disaster

Sascha Zverev has huge respect for Roger Federer, but he is not happy with his ranking

Alexander Zverev is currently in Acapulco, where he is about to play the local ATP500. The German no.1 is ranked no.7 and Roger Federer no.6. The Swiss sensation is still high in the rankings because of the freeze of the points and Zvere doesn’t like it.

Thie situation may get grotesque. On the WTA side, Ashleigh Barty is still world no.1 after barely playing for 1 year and without much success, while Naomi Osaka that holds to slams is no.2. On the ATP side, Federer is still hanging in there and Sascha doesn’t think it is fair that he is behind the Swiss legend that has played just a couple of matches in more than 1 year (details).

Sascha commented:

I am the biggest Roger Federer’s fan, but he has not played for a year and he is higher ranked than me. I played a Grand Slam final, a Masters 1000 final. The system is just a disaster.

Sascha will kick start his campaign in Acapulco against rising star and 17-year-old Carlos Alcaraz Garfia. The German is expected to win in straight sets, but the young Spaniard can be rather dangerous. He won 3 Challengers in 2020 and he is going for more.
