The Ultimate Tennis Showdown will be back for the 4th time with the presence of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Gael Monfils, Fabio Fognini, Alexander Bublik and Corentin Moutet. The competition will return for a 2nd season graced with three top 20 players. The event will be staged from April 5-7 at the Mouratoglou Academy in the south of France.
The competition is organized and hosted by Patrick Mouratoglou, also the coach of Serena Williams that released the following statement:
“2020 showed us that the revolutionary project was worth pursuing. We’ve attracted a new, younger audience, created incredible memories and experienced a wide variety of emotions from excitement, to stress, suspense, and laughter,” said Patrick.
“Coming back with a second season of UTS was a no-brainer for 2021. We have a lot of surprises in store for the fans and we can’t wait to have them on board and to continue this tennis saga.”
This would be the 4th edition of the UTS. Matteo Berrettini won the first one, Zverev the second, and De Minaur the third.
Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2021
Ranked no.5 (career-high), the Greek played his last match on the 6th of March when he surrendered to Andrey Rublev 6-3 7-6(2) in the semifinal in Rotterdam (draw).
During this season the Greek owns an overall 9-2 record. Stefanos Tsitsipas’s most significant result of the present season was getting to the semifinal at the Australian Open and Rotterdam.
Gael Monfils in 2021
Now ranked no.12, Gael played his last match on the 8th of February when he lost to Emil Ruusuvuori 3-6 6-4 7-5 3-6 6-3 in the 1st round of the Australian Open (draw).
Currently, during this season Monfils achieved a compiled 0-2 win-loss record.
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Gael Monfils squared off 3 times. Their current record is 2-1 for Tsitsipas. The last time they squared off, Stefanos Tsitsipas won 4-6 7-6(4) 7-6(4) in the semifinal in Dubai (Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships) in March 2019.
Fabio Fognini in 2021
At the moment ranked no.18, Fognini played his last match on the 15th of February when he was defeated by Rafael Nadal 6-3 6-4 6-2 in the 4th round of the Australian Open (draw).
During this season Fognini has a 6-4 match record.
Bublik in Doha, ranking, and results in 2021
Ranked world no.44, the Kazakhstani owns an overall 11-5 win-loss record in 2021. Alexander is now having a run in Doha where he beat Ramkumar Ramanathan 6-4 6-2.
Alexander Bublik will come up against Bautista-Agut in the 2nd round. Their actual record is 1-0 for Bublik.
The Kazakhstani reached the final in Antalya (Antalya Open) and in Singapore (Singapore Tennis Open).
Fabio Fognini and Alexander Bublik have never played each other as of now in top tournaments.
