Tommy Haas survives a tricky opener in Hamburg

Tough start of the tournament for the seed no.2 Tommy Haas that was up against world no. 135 qualifier Blaz Kavcic. A match that on paper shouldn’t have been as tricky especially after Tommy has won the opener 6-1.

The Kavcic surprised the German by winning the first set and the by recovering a 1-3 deficit in the decider to fight till the very end.

From Haas

“I think my opponent was a bit nervous, playing in front of a packed house here, but in the second set he got an early break and started serving much better and started playing much better tennis.
It was a tough, fought-out match in the end, so I got lucky a little bit in the end to have won.”

Next vs. Berlocq

Tommy will play a very fit Carlos Berloq in the next round. The Argentine has just won the tournament in. This will be the first match between these two.
